FAQ

Capabilities & Materials

What types of metals are suitable for your coating services?

SHURPAC specializes in applying high-performance industrial coatings to all types of metals. Our processes are fully optimized for Steel, Aluminum, Cast Iron, Copper, Brass, Stainless Steel, and various specialty alloys. Regardless of the metal substrate or part geometry, we can process your components to meet strict industry standards.

Can any non-metal materials be coated?

Yes. In addition to our comprehensive metal finishing capabilities, we have specialized technical processes that allow us to apply select coatings to plastic and wood components depending on your specific project requirements.

Do my parts need to be sandblasted or smooth prior to shipping them to SHURPAC?

No, you do not need to pre-treat your parts. SHURPAC provides complete, in-house surface preparation. We utilize automated Blast-It-All® systems to thoroughly clean, profile, and strip manufacturing imperfections like laser scale, mill scale, heavy rust, oxidation, or pre-existing finishes. This ensures a clean surface and maximum coating adhesion from the ground up.

Can parts with pre-existing coatings be re-coated?

Yes. Whether the original finish was applied by SHURPAC or another company, our automated blast systems and surface preparation equipment can effectively strip away older or used finishes, preparing the raw substrate for a fresh, high-quality re-coating.

What type of color-matching services do you provide? Can you follow brand-specific colors?

Yes, we offer versatile color-matching capabilities. We work with a vast array of colors and textures, allowing us to precisely follow brand-specific colors, military standards, or custom OEM aesthetic requirements across our powder and liquid coating lines.

Are there any environments or applications where a part coated by SHURPAC would NOT be suitable?

No, our high-performance e-coating, powder coating, and liquid industrial finishes are engineered for extreme durability and maximum corrosion resistance. Because we customize the coating type and application process to your exact operational environment, ranging from agricultural field use to stringent military applications, we can deliver a finishing solution suitable for nearly any demanding environment.

What is the difference between E-Coating, Powder Coating, and Liquid Coating, and how do I know which is best for my project?

  • E-Coating (Electrocoating) is an immersion process utilizing our Sherwin-Williams Vectrogard™ 3000 system. It provides total, uniform coverage (including recessed areas and internal cavities), making it the premier choice for unmatched corrosion resistance, either as a stand-alone finish or a high-performance primer.
  • Powder Coating uses a dry powder cured under heat to form a remarkably thick, scratch-resistant, and aesthetically flexible exterior shield. It is highly cost-effective for high-volume production and offers an extensive selection of colors and textures.
  • Liquid Coating is ideal for parts that cannot withstand the high temperatures of powder curing, requiring specialized primers, solvent- or water-based industrial paints, or specialized heat-resistant topcoats.

Does SHURPAC offer CARC or specialized military coatings?

Yes. SHURPAC has decades of experience meeting stringent government and defense specifications. We are a premier provider of Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings (CARC) and hold formal coating approvals from major defense OEMs, including Oshkosh Truck and BAE Systems.

Capacity, Logistics, & Turnaround

What is the typical turnaround time for a project?

Our standard turnaround time is typically one week. Because we operate multiple high-volume, in-house "power and free" conveyor lines alongside automated systems, we are structurally engineered to handle large production lot sizes quickly and efficiently to keep your supply chain moving.

What is SHURPAC’s service area? Do you operate internationally?

SHURPAC is a global provider. While we are headquartered in the industrial hub of Southeast Wisconsin, we regularly serve clients across the contiguous United States and seamlessly facilitate international shipments for global manufacturing supply chains.

How are completed products shipped? Does SHURPAC provide logistics support?

We offer flexible logistics solutions tailored to your workflow. Completed products can be picked up and facilitated by your own carrier networks, or SHURPAC can coordinate and provide shipping and transport logistics directly to your facility.

What type of packaging or crating is used to ensure parts are not damaged in transit?

Protection during transit is vital to our quality promise. We utilize custom packaging solutions constructed strictly to customer specifications. To safeguard your finished products against scuffs, scrapes, or environmental damage, we offer custom wood box and crate manufacturing designed for secure global and domestic freight shipping.

Does SHURPAC provide ongoing, recurring support for high-volume parts?

Yes. We specialize in providing continuous, scheduled support for Tier 1 manufacturers and OEMs who require reliable weekly, monthly, or rolling production runs. Our facility is designed to seamlessly integrate with your ongoing manufacturing schedule.

Do you have warehousing space available for Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery?

Yes. Beyond our application lines, SHURPAC operates a secure, bonded warehouse facility. This allows us to offer custom inventory management and warehousing solutions, supporting Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery logistics to keep assembly lines lean and efficient.

Value-Added Services & Quality Control

Does SHURPAC assemble multi-part products after the coating process is complete?

Yes. To help streamline your supply chain and reduce multi-vendor handling, we offer comprehensive post-coating assembly and kitting services. This includes assembling complex components, applying specialized labels, installing heat shields, and fulfilling final product packaging specifications.

What quality standards does SHURPAC adhere to?

Quality is the foundation of our operation. SHURPAC proudly operates a quality management system in full compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards. We carry out strict in-house testing, continuous equipment calibration, and rigorous preventative maintenance schedules to guarantee every batch meets precise, documented specifications.

What is the benefit of your Reverse Osmosis (RO) water pre-treatment system?

Before any coating is applied, parts pass through a chemical pre-treatment wash. We have invested heavily in an advanced industrial Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment system that strips out up to 98% of dissolved contaminants and minerals from the water. By using ultra-pure water during pre-treatment, we maximize the chemical bond between the paint and the metal substrate, significantly boosting the field lifespan of your product.

Does SHURPAC engineer custom racking for unique part designs?

Yes. We design, fabricate, and maintain custom production racking systems completely in-house. Our engineering capabilities allow us to maximize material transfer efficiency, ensure perfect part grounding, optimize line density, and ultimately lower total project costs for unique or complex part designs.

Estimates, Pricing, & Ordering

Is there a minimum order amount or fixed price adjustment for certain quantities?

Because industrial finishing requirements vary wildly based on substrate type, part geometry, masking complexity, volume, and coating specifications, we do not utilize a rigid, one-size-fits-all price matrix or minimum order sheet. Instead, we evaluate every project individually to ensure we provide the most competitive, honest, and transparent pricing possible.
